An episodic vasoconstriction of the small digital arteries and arterioles in patients with scleroderma or other connective tissue diseases is defined as Raynaud's phenomenon. You see cyanosis (blueness) due to poor blood circulation in the fingers and rubor (redness) as the arteries relax and blood returns to the digits.
