Tinea capitis is a common fungal disease. It is more prevalent in children. It can be transmitted from humans and infected animals as well. Infection from animals frequently leads to more aggressive forms of the disease. It was noted that higher incidence of tinea capitis occurs among hyperactive children. Topical treatment of this disease requires a lot of experience and may take time. For that reason systemic treatment is considered to be standard of care. Often patients or parents refuse doctor's recommendations for systemic treatment because of concern of hepatotoxicity of systemic antifungal medications.
